Daycare at Fenners

We also provide day care on and off site. Every resident has the opportunity to choose the programme of activities which develops their abilities and interest, helps them gain skills, and develops their confidence and self determination. New residents need to feel secure, so at their own pace they "taste" the activities on offer and build up their own programme, making choices and reviewing them regularly.

Working with small groups we develop life skills, literacy, numeracy, art and craft and visiting tutors offer music and drumming, pottery, and circus skills. Communication skills are nurtured by small group work and individual programmes, using computers where appropriate.


Daycare in the community

Those who want to work go to a sheltered workshop or a local animal sanctuary and some people go to further education classes in or near Norwich: Wensum Lodge (woodcarving), NANSA (literacy & I.T.), Vauxhall Centre (literacy) and Thornham Walled Garden (horticulture).

Physical activities include a choice of horse riding, swimming, football, skittles, New Age curling, basketball, ten-pin bowling, table tennis and pool, sailing, canoeing, and fishing.


Holidays

May holidays are based at either a water sports centre on the Broads or a farm near the sea.
Residents usually choose their July holiday at a seaside holiday camp.

Staff

Fenners has seven full-time staff (managers, care staff, administrator and housekeeper) and ten part-timers (support workers, daycare tutors and housekeepers) with 7 Care N.V.Q.s and 2 R.M.A.s and a Registered Nurse between them. All staff have basic and refresher training in first aid, manual handling, epilepsy, diabetes, infection control, food hygiene, fire extinguishers and protection of vulnerable adults.

Quality Assurance

Quality Assurance is monitored annually by Friends of Fenners, a small charity associated with Fenners care home, to meet specific service standards as outlined in the Care Standards Act 2000.
