Registered with the Care Quality Commission
Fenners is a well-respected local provider of specialist residential and daycare services for adults with learning disabilities who may have additional needs such as the care of epilepsy or diabetes.
Fenners Farmhouse is an independent residential home established as a family business in 1989, registered with the Care Quality Commission and approved provider to Norfolk County Council, Suffolk County Council, Royal Borough of Greenwich and the National Health Service.
Our latest C.Q.C. report grades Fenners as "Good" in all key questions. (April 2018). We are a well-staffed family home – a converted 16th century farmhouse in half an acre of ground – for nine younger adults (aged 18 to 60 on arrival), who all have their own rooms within an ordinary domestic environment. There is a large recreational garden that has recently been refurbished to provide access to all for growing vegetables and plants etc. with a bird hide for watching wildlife, and a smaller enclosed garden for social activities.
Fenners is a well-established part of the local community, with access to social activities in five neighbouring villages, as well as leisure and sports facilities in Diss, our local town three miles away. Diss is on the main Norwich-London railway line, and Bury St. Edmunds, Norwich and Ipswich have cinemas and theatres we use regularly.
For most people living here, Fenners is their permanent home. For a few, it has been a halfway house to more independent living. Families and friends visit freely, usually living locally, and we take an active part in the life of our neighbouring village, Bressingham with quiz evenings, pantomimes and open gardens.
We use local community facilities – churches and chapels, clubs and pubs, leisure centres, riding stables, and swimming pools in Diss, Thetford and surrounding areas. The local community visits Fenners for the autumn fair, Christmas carols and mince pies and charity coffee and cake mornings.
